Dragons Den....

Today, we hosted our "Dragons' Den", as part of our JEP.
Each group pitched to the Dragons, who quizzed and queried information and details regarding each idea.
Our 4 6th class teams performed very well, impressing the Dragons with their research, preparation and financial details.
The Dragons for 6th class were, Ms.Prior, Ms. White, Ms. Mc Gowan and Mark Lynch. (Ms. Wynne replaced Ms. White as 5th class took the floor.)
Joanne Gannon, JEP organiser for Cavan was also present.

PetCare:
The boys designed an information booklet on pet care and facts about your pet.
They would print a booklet for each of a number of pets, ranging from cats, dogs and rabbits to hamsters.

Buddys Bands
The boys plan to sell glow-in-the-dark wristbands.

The Poo Pick Up
The boys and girls want to keep the streets and parks clean and sourced a handy clip-on bag carrier to gather up after your pet!

The girls demonstrated their "cup song" rhythm and described how they plan to source and market their product.

After much discussion and thought, the Dragons felt that a combination of the Cup Song and Buddys bands may be successful.

Now the real work begins 6th!!

Oisin and Busy Bee

Have a look at our busybee.blog to see what Oisín got up to over Christmas!

JEP

6th class,  have a look at the video clip I mentioned today, to see what other junior entrepreneurs have developed. It's the "Big Ideas" one.
Remember, it doesn't have to be an unusual invention, it can be a service or something simple too.
Bear in mind that whatever idea gets passed, we will have to make lots of them to sell!!!

Anemometer challenge!

We have been experiencing some very windy and wild weather across Ireland lately.
The Beaufort scale is used to describe the force of the wind.
Click here to find out more about the Beaufort scale.
An anemometer is used to measure wind speed.
6th class are making their own devices to measure the strength of the wind. There is much discussion and debate going on, with lots of ideas and plans.
We made a model today using disposable cups and straws, following a plan which was flawed we discovered. The straws were not strong enough to support the cups; so 6th class, back to the drawing board!
We will post photos of our creations, and hopefully some snaps of them in operation.

Send in photos of scenes showing various wind speeds, e.g smoke rising vertically from a chimney indicates a Force 1.  A photo earns you one of these little gems!!!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to 6th class!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and are enjoying the rest of your holidays.
Get lots of rest, 2014 is going to be busy!!
