6th class participated in a STEM exhibition (science, technology, engineering and maths) in Belfast last week.
Their project was "Bridges: how do they work?"
The children did alot of investigating, research and experiments with design and weight-bearing to come up with models of most types of bridge structure.
Aoife's uncle, a civil engineer visited and gave us lots of information and explanations as to why you would choose a type of bridge and what materials were needed. He also looked at our models and gave advice and feedback.
The adjudicators in Belfast were very impressed with the presentation and commented on how enthusiastic and articulate the children were.
6th class held a cake sale the week previous to going to help cover costs. They decided that any surplus money would be given to charity. As Ms. Wynne was running the mini-marathon for Mary's Meals, it was decided to give the money to that charity.
